FAMAGUSTA AND SALAMIS

At first we will visit  the ancient town –  state Salamis. Here you can find marble statues, mosaics, the amphitheater and gymnasium. Salamis was first Hellenistic settlement of Cyprus and it’s capital until  5th century B.C..

Not far from Salamis is situated St Barnabas Monastery , one of the most important in Cyprus, it was built on the place  of the Apostle’s tomb.

 

Famagusta –is the pearl of the medieval Mediterranean. We will walk through the narrow streets  of the medieval  Famagusta and will see the one of the most beautiful cathedral – cathedral of saint Nicholas, where were coronation of Cypriot kings from dynasty Lusignan. You will have a free time to drink Turkish coffee and try eastern sweets.

 

On the way back from Famagusta we will see notorious “ghost-town”, it is empty and deserted , surrounded by the  barbed wire.
